Youth Bus ready to roll

March 17, 2010

The Youth Bus has a stunning new look and is ready for all you young people out there in Wychavon to climb aboard and have some fun.   Just take a peek at the photo below.

It's a rubbish photo, but the bus still looks cool!

With its sleek black lines and cool pop art style graphics, the Youth Bus will have games consoles, music decks, laptops, Wi-Fi internet access and chill-out areas.

The Youth Bus also has its own extendable outside awning  (for when the summer arrives), has all the equipment you could possibly need for sports coaching sessions, and has lots of information on employment, education and health related issues.

Ooh - it's an awning - just need BBQ weather now!

The Youth Bus will be driven and supervised by trained and experienced youth workers, in order to make sure the young people on the bus and get the most out of all of the facilities on board.

Spider-Man to drive Youth Bus?!

The refurbishment of the bus, which was carried out over Christmas and early in January this year, was made possible largely thanks to a £30,000 grant from the West Mercia Criminal Justice Board.

Now that it’s finished the Youth Bus will be out and about and on the road, visiting our more rural villages – the kinds of places where public transport and social activities are limited.  The Youth Bus is going to be a place where you can hang out and have fun with your friends, play computer games, use the internet, listen to music, and get advice and guidance from a range of support agencies on issues affecting you.  Basically the Youth Bus will be a place for you to have a great time with your mates and be safe off the streets.

Rob Mace, Spa Youth Zone Manager, said: “The Youth Bus has certainly come a long way since we bought it early last year and began the initial work of making it road worthy.  We can’t wait to get it out around the villages so that young people have a place to go and have some fun.”

Youth Bus Funding

February 18, 2010

Youth Bus News – November 2009

Wychavon’s Youth Bus has received additional funding that will enable it to be further converted.

The £30k comes from the Community Cash Back Fund run by the West Mercia Local Criminal Justice Board, a new scheme that gives local people a say in how £4 million of recovered criminal assets (for example confiscated cash or property) should be spent in their communities.

The funding will build on the money from LAA Health Improvement Fund, which has got the basics of the bus converted, but further work is needed to make the bus even more appealing to young people.

Dave Hemming, Community Safety Manager, said: “The Youth Bus is out and about in Wychavon at the moment, but this money will help us to develop it even further. It will go on decorating the outside for signage, making the inside really comfortable and on additional equipment.”

Rob Mace, Manager of the Youth Bus, said: “It’s great news that we have got some more funding as we will be starting the second phase of the conversion work early in 2010. We will be continuing to consult with young people about what they would like on the bus up until Christmas as we want to get as many ideas as possible. Feedback from young people who have been on board so far is already good and they would all rather hang out on the bus than be on the streets, especially in rural areas where there is little to do. We still have a way to go to give the bus some street cred but we are getting there slowly!”
